Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Alabama
Mother placed bill in minor's name
While I was still a minor, my mother placed my name on an electric bill. I've cooperated with the company the bill was from and informed them that I never authorized my name to be used to establish an account. Now I have a collection's agency threatening to report it to national credit agencies, and unfortunately, I don't know the legality behind their attempts to persue the debt. I now live in Delaware, and I was not occupying the residence where the services were rendered at the time they were rendered.

If it is not your account then the threat to place it on your credit report violates the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Have you pulled your credit reports to see if this collection agency has put it on your reports or has made inquiries which will lower your score?

When did you move to Delaware? Where is the collection agency from?
