Re: animal cruelity

Alabama Code Section 13A-11-14 addresses animal cruelty, and categorizes it as a Class B misdemeanor. A Class B misdemeanor carries a fine of up to $3,000 and up to six months in jail.

I would strongly encourage you to contact a criminal defense lawyer immediately, and hire him or her to represent you when you go to court. An attorney may be able to work out an arrangement to keep this charge off of your record, or may be able to beat the charge at trial. If you just go to court and enter a guilty plea, you will have a criminal conviction and may go to jail for up to six months.

If you cannot afford to hire an attorney, then you need to file an application with the court to have an attorney appointed to represent you. If you are indigent, then the court may appoint someone to represent you. Whether you hire a lawyer or obtain a court appointed lawyer, get an attorney involved immediately. Good luck.
