Legal Question in Criminal Law in Alabama
I was arrested in 2005 for poss of a controled sub. In 2007 when it went to court, My lawyer advised me to file a pretrial diversion as a way to keep my record clean, since I had never been in any trouble. I completed all of the required meetings, classes, drug tests, and fines of the court refferal program and received my completion certificate. I also paid all of my fines to the court. I completed all of this in 2008. I thought I was done with everything, but today I got a letter from DA's office saying that I failed to complete community service and that my case will be taken back to court. I havent been in any trouble and dont want a record or jail time. More importantly I am married and have a family including a 5mo old boy. I am a productive member of the community. I run a credit and debt management company and I am a financial consultant for a mortgage company. Please help. What do I need to do?

More than likely you need to get with your lawyer, the Judge and the DA and get it worked out where the community service is performed or you can show it was performed. They don't want to just put people in jail, but they do want to close their file.
