Legal Question in Criminal Law in Alabama
When my brother was 20 years old (15 years ago), he was caught with possession of control substance. His lawyer got him tried as a youth offender and he did one year in jail. That was supposed to be the end and when he got out he started driving trucks. Now he is trying to get another job, the company did a background check and it came back he got a felony. He went to the courthouse to get records and the worker told him he was tried as an adult but papers show as youth offender, It is stopping him from getting a job. He want to know if he was charged as a youth offender why does it says adult now?

This is truly one of those situations in which he is going to have to get a lawyer. If the papers show he was granted youthful offender, then he was not convicted as a felon but as a youthful offender. It will probably take someone familiar with reviewing the file to see what happened to the youthful offender application and whether it was ever granted or denied. Then if the facts are as you say, the Clerk's office has made an entry mistake which will need to be cleared.
