Legal Question in Criminal Law in Alabama

What do I do?

My husband & I slit up, I moved out.

In the process of trying to move out he changed the locks on me, I had a lawyer & the sherrifs dept. tell me that as long as we were still married, & that was our marital residence, I have rights to go over there & break the door down if I had to, to get my stuff. So I broke into the house by myself finished getting my stuff. Next thing I know I have a warrent for my arrest for criminal mic. 2nd. If I had a legal right to break into my own home then why is this happening? What can I do ?

A person is entitled to rely upon the advice of an attorney and on assurances given by law enforcement officials. These persons could be subpoenaed to testify in your behalf. Of course, there could be a problem if you rented the property instead of owning it. In that case, you damaged something that didn't belong to you.
