Legal Question in Criminal Law in Alabama
Information Act
How can I find out the results of a court case? I need to know who to talk to, what forms I need to fill out, or what records are public knowledge. There is a personal connection between the accused and myself. I believe he is lying to the family about the final disposition of his case, to the detriment of some elderly family members.

Re: Information Act
I am making the assumption we are talking about a criminal case.
In Alabama all you need to do is go to the Court House where the person was tried at and in the
Clerks Office (Circuit Clerk if it was a felony, and District Clerk if it was a misdemeanor) ask to
see that persons criminal file. It is a matter of public record and for 25 cents a page you should be able to get a copy of anything you wish (unless it is a juvenile or youthful offender case). What you are looking for is the Indictment or Warrant (Felony or Misdemeanor) which will tell what he was actually charged with, Plea Bargain (if any), possibly a Presentence Report, and most importantly
the Judges Orders/Findings and the Case Summary Sheets. Your District Attorneys Office should
also be willing to help you to the extend of writing a short note to you as to what actually happened in the case. Also if you are a victim, then you should have full access and been given an opportunity to speak at the trial, sentencing, and parole hearing under Alabama law. Also most Alabama Court Clerks offices have a public computer station where you can look up a persons criminal record for free.
