Legal Question in Criminal Law in Alabama
Jackie Wallace
My son was arrested for armed robbery. he was 17 at the time of the crime. When he was arrested the officer did not call me. Are the police suppose to notify the minors parents. Could you tell me what is the procedure for arrest in the state of Alabama for a minor charged with robbery one. The officer said that my son confess and that he has witnesses that my son did this crime. I know my son and he is no angel, I just want to know our rights here in Alabama. To get a better understanding of the law here. Thank you for your response.

Re: Jackie Wallace
Minors have what is called the "super miranda" rights and have to be advised of their rights to have a parent present before giving statements. As such, any confession would not be admissible.
