Legal Question in Criminal Law in Alabama

medical worker took money from dying patient

A medical worker talked my mother into transferring thousands of dollars from her checking account to an account set up for her and my mother. This occurred after Hospice had taken over my mother's case and she was heavily medicated and confused. I think it could be criminal. Where should I report this to. She took almost all our funds so we can't afford to pay much and take care of the probate as well. Please help

Re: medical worker took money from dying patient

Start by contacting your local sheriff's department, and ask to speak to one of their investigators to report a case of theft and elder abuse. If you don't get anywhere with them, contact your local district attorney's office and report the incident to them. If they are not interested in helping, contact the Attorney General's office in Montgomery.

In addition to pursuing criminal prosecution of this woman, your mother's estate may be able to file a lawsuit against the woman who committed this action and against the hospice who was employing her. I would suggest you discuss this possibility with the attorney who is probating your mother's estate.

Good luck. If my firm can be of any assistance, please let us know.
