petty theft
my mother was arrested for stealing a $3 bottle of advil. she is in her fortys and never been in any kind of trouble before. will she do jail time?

probably not, however, the possible penalty for theft of property in the 3rd degree in a municipal court is up to 500.00 and up to 6 months in jail. the judge can set the penalty anywhere in this range. all courts do not treat the same crime the same way. the penalty usually depends on the facts, criminal history, age, character etc. if the case is in the district court the penalties may differ. please call me if you have any questions 205-879-9595
