Statue of limitations on child sodomy?

My eldest brother and my father molested me when I was 10-14 yrs old, before 1985. My father died in 2007, but my brother is still around and verbally threatened me and my daughter recently. No law enforcement reports were made at the time of the child abuse--my mother (died 1995) was afraid of the consequences to the rest of the family--but she did take me to the pediatrician and then to her gynecologist because of the horrible infections I had. If those medical records still exist, there is the proof that I was sodomized. I first attempted suicide when I was only 11, and was hospitalized for several days. My older sister remembers that incident, and also that our mom took me, a child, to an OB-GYN. (She is adamant that she was not sexually abused, but does believe that I was) Can I still have my brother prosecuted for the crimes he committed against me when I was a child? (He was in high school) We lived in Alabama then. Both he and I now live in California. What they did to me affected my whole life, and still hurts me. I want my brother prosecuted criminally and appropriately punished. Is it too late to bring charges against him? If not, what do I need to do to get a case started?

Yes you still can prosecute. We had a case not too many years ago here in Birmingham. You would need to contact the district attorny office in the county where you lived. They would need information as to where your brother lives in order to extradite him. You would have to come back here as well to sign an affidavit for a warrant to issue.
