Target practice or hunting
I live in a subdivision, what is the distance a person must be away to discharge a weapon??

You cannot discharge a weapon in most subdivisions unless you want to go to jail. Under state law you could be charged with reckless endangerment, and most cities have a law against discharging a firearm within the city limits or within a residential area. If you shoot into a house or car, then you could even be prosecuted for a felony. I would recommend calling your local police department to find out what local regulations exist for your community, but I believe that they will tell you that you cannot do it at all. It is not safe to discharge a weapon in a subdivision under any circumstances.
