Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Alabama

discrimination against employee

i am a upper level manager for a up and growning co.I was told in order for me to recieve a promotion that i would have to lose weight and remove the gold tooth in my mouth. there is no written evidence of this in our bylaws. are these areas that would be considered discrimination? If so what should i do. side note

this company about three years ago had to settle a racial discrimination law suit,, based on the lack of promotion of minorities into upper level manangement.

Re: discrimination against employee

I am not licensed in Alabama, and therefore this advice will be general in nature. As a rule only certain kinds of discrimination are prohibited, such as racial, religions, age, sex etc. I am not aware of any discrimination prohibition against overweight or gold teeth. However, Alabama may have employment laws which may give you some protection. Consult with an attorney. Many will only charge a modest fee - or none - for an initial consultation. Call you state or local bar for a referral.
