judgement
I apparently have an old debt I knew nothing about. I recently recieved a letter from an attorney's office in Alabama for a Motion to revive Judgement for a debt from 1990. I have lived in Virginia for 14 years now. What can they do and what options do I have?

Re: judgement
If you affirmatively raise the defense of statute of limitations regarding this alleged debt and refuse to sign on to or agree to this motion in any way, shape or form, "they" can do nothing in terms of reviving this debt in any manner that will survive legal scrutiny.
Re: judgement
They have to try and collect the judgment sometime within the first ten years after obtaining it in order to file a motion to revive. You should object to the motion to revive claiming it is barred by the statute of limitations. Get an attorney in the county where the motion is pending. You only have a short time to answer so do not delay. A $2500 judgment can balloon to a $14,000 judgment or MORE over a ten year period.
