Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

hello,

I am now 18 years old and I have three sisters, two of which are younger than 18 and one that's nineteen. We all still live at home with my single mother that also has a 4 year old son that does not belong to my father. When my mother and father divorced he was court ordered to pay child support for us four girl but has not payed a dime. My mother is disabled and has a disabled son. My question is, is it possible for me and my nine-teen year old sister to sue my father for back child support to help my mother. Please help me.

The question is does your father have any money. I know he is to pay but does it do any good to sue if he has none. On the other hand, does your mother get any assistance from DHR? If she does, then DHR could sue on her behalf to obtain. It is my understanding that a suit must be initiated before age 19. It is possible you could talk your mother into filing the suit.

Your mother can sue, but do it now! If you wait you will not be able to bring the action.
