Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama
Adoption - back child support
If a person is in arrears on child support to custodial parent, and non-custodial parent is asked to sign adoption papers on the children, is the non-custodial parent still required to pay back child support once the adoption is complete?

Re: Adoption - back child support
Yes but if the person is consenting to adoption, they can ask for and get from the other party a signed document stating all child support is current. However, with DHR involved, they will still have to pay because that is tax payer money and they want it back from someone, either party will do.
