Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Adult Wanting to Change His Surname

My husband and I took in a young man 3 years ago when he was 22. He has nothing to do with his family of origin due to severe abuse as a child. He has claimed us as his parents for the past 3 years and now would like to take our last name legally. If this is legally possible he would like to know how to go about legally changing his last name to our last name. We are a family in every way and he would like to take our name. thank you

Re: Adult Wanting to Change His Surname

you can check with your local probate court about changing names, but just changing names does not necessarily effect rights of inheritance, or other legal rights or duties that a family member may have. you need to consult with an attorney about all of the ramifications of this action.
