Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Child Support

In Sept. 2001, my divorce was decreed and I lost my job. I informed the ex-spouse of my situation and began paying her $200. of the court-ordered $933. monthly. I never expected to be out of my previous salary range this long. And I never contacted a lawyer because I've had no money. Just this month, I accepted a new postion with a better salary, but will have to contact my lawyer because it is $12,000 less the my previous salary. Am I required to pay all of the back child support from Sept. 2001 to Mar. 2003? The $200/month has been consistent up to this month. And in the decree, she was required to pay me $4,500., but never paid me this amount.

Re: Child Support

almost any unilateral deviation from a child support order can result in a contempt order from the court upon application by the harmed spouse. the lack of pmt of child support and the money due to you from your spouse are both worthy of contempt by the court. i would see an atty asap to try and resolve the matter. call me if you need any help
