Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Collecting Child Support per Court Order

I received my divorce in 1993 based on abandonment. I was awarded child support by the court in the sum of $367.00 per month. After several attempts to collect through the local child support collection agency in this county, I've still yet to receive the first dollar. Three children are in question (ages 13, 15, and 16) although only 2 are named in the divorce papers as we weren't married when the first child was born. Now that I have his actual address and phone number, I'm still unable to collect from him. Given my financial situation, I cannot afford to retain an attorney (this has been the sum of advice I've been given) and wonder what I can do as ''a mere mortal'' to collect the child support owed to us.

Re: Collecting Child Support per Court Order

If you cannot afford an attorney, perhaps Legal Services Corporation can help, or contact your County Bar Association or State Bar and see if you qualify for a free attorney through their volunteer (pro bono) lawyer program.
