Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

common law marriage

A friend of mine has been living with a woman for about 1 1/2 years and 2 months ago she had his child. He has been paying her bills and letting her drive one of his vehicles for most of the last year. The relationship has gone down hill and he wants to leave. He has no problem supporting his child via child support, but he is afraid he will have to continue to provide the mother with a vehicle and pay her bills since he has been doing so. I told him since they are not married that I dont think he will have to pay more than child support. Am I correct? Thank You
