Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama
My daughter was born last March. In the beginning of her life I was helping support her, but I was not allowed to see her anymore and I doubted my paternity. It has been confirmed that I am her father. The grandmother waits to adopt her, but I don't want this to happen. I am going to start paying child support next month. Her grandmother recently got I law firm to present me with adoption papers and said if I dont sign I will go to court. Can they do this and what am I going to court for?
Thanks!

They are attempting to get you to relinquish your parental rights. If you want your child, don't sign anything. Go to court to get an adjudication of paternity to you. You will have visitation with your child or custody (depending on the best interests of the child) and you will have to pay child support if you are not the custodial parent. Get to a lawyer with this. Don't sign anything, and assert your right to your child if you want to maintain your parental rights.
