Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Default divorce waiting period.

My husband did not show up for our divorce hearing. I was granted a default divorce and he was given 10 days to respond. My attorney is now trying to mediate. I was under the impression that after the 10 days, if he had not contested, the decree would be signed. I need to know the law on this order. I feel I am being misled and cannot find help anywhere to answer my question. Thank you.
