I've been seperated for 18 years and want to get married now. Do i still need to file for a divorce

Yes, being separated does not affect your legal status. If you have never gotten a divorce, then you are still legally married. If you tried to get married without getting a divorce, the result would be that your new marriage would be void - meaning, as a matter of law it does not exist. Further, you could be prosecuted for bigamy for knowingly attempting to enter into a new marriage without ending the prior marriage first.
If you have been separated for 18 years, there is a good chance that you can take care of this as a simple uncontested divorce.
