ex-spouse will not release minor child to me

I have full legal custody of our minor child as of Monday June 3 he has had him a week he refuses to give my child back. My court papers are legal and signed by a judge. The police department states i will need to go out and get a pick up order before they can go out and obtaim my son. What to do??

you have the right to pick up your child from your x husband, but this could lead to unnecessary violence depending on the temperment of the parties involved. the police should help you if you have the proper papers, but it is up to them to help or not depending on their internal procedures. the safest way to proceed is to hire an attorney to file a habeas corpus in court and get the court to order the sheriff to immediately pick up your child from your x husband.
