Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama
Fathers rights in adoption
My son 16, and his girlfriend 16, are going to have a baby. My son is currently undergoing a chemical addiction program and has had some minor juvenile offenses. His girlfriend has decided she wants to give the baby up for adoption. My son wants to be a father to his child and doesn't want the child to be adopted. He is willing to do whatever it takes to raise this child and be in its life. Can the mother give the baby up without him agreeing and if she doesn't want to keep it can my son get custody. She
says no he can't because of his juvenile record but
she also has a juvenile record and these are kept confidential aren't they. Also the girls mother wants to adopt and raise the child but there again my son doesn't want the baby adopted. If the mother doesn't or can't raise the child my son can. What are his rights to his child and the childs future?

Re: Fathers rights in adoption
I really need to know the county in which you reside(or your son resides)
Has paternity been established? Either through blood tests, or on the birth certificate.
Yes your son can stop the adoption if he is the father. If paternity has not been established he can file a suit with the court and ask that paternity be established.
You may call me for a free consultation in this regard.
