Can I do it myself?

My husband and his ex have joint legal custody with her having sole physical custody. He pays child support for two children. One of the children is staying with us during the school year this year. The other is still with their mother. Because we have one of the children with us when we normally wouldn't, is there anyway he can get a temporary order to stop half the child support he is paying to her in order for us to be able to buy all the things she needs for school, without hiring a lawyer? Basically, can I draw up the papers myself and submit them to a judge for his review? We cannot afford a lawyer as we have just recently been to court to have support modified and we're still paying the lawyer. We did not know that the child would be living with us or we would have addressed this issue earlier. We only want this temporarily as the child may end up going back to live with her mother at any time. We only want to cease payment of the child's half while she is with us. Any response would be appreciated.

you can represent yourself, however, it is probably not a wise decision to do so. child support can be modified by a court order after filing a petition to modify. child support is determined by a rule of judicial administration and will not be automatically cut in half. you really need to get with an attorney in this matter. if there is not a fight about the child support it should not cost too much.
