Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

My ex husband was required to pay alimony until I remarried according to our divorce decree. He quit paying when the child support ended. The child support had to be garnisheed from his wages. I am currently employed but went for over a year unemployed in a different city than my home taking care of my sick mother. My home was foreclosed on because the renter would not pay. Is there a way to collect at least partial back payment and have him continue the alimony as legally required ?

The divorce was in Birmingham, Al but I currently live in Louisiana. Thanks.

Yes, you will have to file a contempt petition in the court where the divorce was filed. If you have remarried or started living with someone, you will not get any more alimony. The other facts you mention are unfortunate, but have nothing to do with the alimony. If he is not able to pay the alimony he will not be required to pay. Get a lawyer and get to court.
