Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

length of power of attorney

Due to a serious illness five years ago, I signed power of attorney over to my mother. She has now taken my home and all possessions including my disability check, etc. I am mentally competent, and only signed the papers because I was told I had 3 months to live. I need to know how long the power of attorney lasts, if I have any rights, and what actions I should take.

Re: length of power of attorney

Immediately contact a local attorney. As long as you are legally competent, you may revoke any power of attorney at any time without waiting for its natural expiration. You can revoke the POA without the assistance of an attorney by notifying your mother (attorney in fact) in writing; however, given your account of the situation, you will benefit from the counsel of an attorney who can advise you regarding legal actions to reverse some of the actions to date under the POA.
