parental rights

I;m a soldier overseas in irq, my ex girlfriend gave birth and wants to give up parental rights to our son, i am not on the birth certificates and i have yet to take a dna test. What are my rights as a father, i would love to raise my son?

For sure, the can't give up your parental rights. Your rights can only be terminated by court action. If you want to raise your son, better get a lawyer and be prepared to contest the involuntary termination of your parental rights.

I am assuming you live in Texas and she lives in Alabama. At any rate, you need to get on the Alabama Putative Father Registry, ASAP.

In addition to the previous responses, you need to contact your military JAG office (legal assistance department). If you do not know where the area JAG is, submit a request up your chain of command. The JAG office will be able to provide some assistance with getting the immediate documents filled out and filed in the appropriate court.
