Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

What qualifies me as a resident of a state?

I have lived in Alabama for over 12 years. I recently moved to Georgia in July of 2006. I am planning on moving back to Alabama this summer of 2007. I want to file for divorce in Alabama but am I still considered a resident or do I have to wait? Please help!!!

You have to be a resident for 6 months.

Once you moved to Georgia, assuming you made it your residence, you became a resident of Georgia. Once here six months, you can file divorce here. To file in Alabama, you'd have to again be there long enough to meet their requirements. It is likely you can file now in Georgia. I'd need more facts to tell you if you should. Call me if I can assist you.
