Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Rights of Natural Father

As the biological parent of a child born in Alabama, do I as the natural/biological father have any rights as to visitation. A paternity test was done and indicates that the probability of paternity on my part is 99.99%. At the time of conception the mother was separated from her then husband. The child was born prior to the divorce. Can I as the nutural parent see this child? Thank you for any assistance.

Re: Rights of Natural Father

You have to have a court officially declare you to be the father in a paternity action. Then you acquire parental rights, such as visitation. However, you also become obligated to support the child. If the mother is agreeable, you could enter into a visitation-child support agreement and make it simpler to obtain your rights.
