separation versus divorce?

My daughter has been separated from her husband for only 1 week and he has ask her to file for a separation first then a divorce is there any legal reason he has ask her to do that? they have no children or property they have aquired together during there 14 month marriage. they have about 7k in credit card debt together that is mainly in her name. what should she do?

I know of no reason for her to have a formal separation prior to actual divorce. In Alabama, a formal separation is rare. Perhaps he thinks there might be a way to get back together at some point, I don't know.

Does she have a lawyer? Also, where are you located?
