Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

Step parent adoption

My husband of 4 years wants to adopt my son. His biological father knows of him, has seen him once, is not on the birth certificate and has not seen or talked to us in seven years. I went through an attorney a year ago to have him sign his parental rights over after I found him. He told the attorney he would claimed document was lost or destroyed all three times the attorny sent it in the mail. He then disappeared. His mother claims she does not know where he is. My husband and I then put my husband name on the birth certificate. That was done, no questions asked. My son now has one name on his birth certificate another on his SS card and I cannot find the father to sign over his parental rights. He wants nothing to do with my son and has refused to see him, I want no child support. What can I do?

Re: Step parent adoption

Go ahead and file for adoption. You can serve the father by publication if you can't find him. Get with your attorney as soon as possible.
