Surrogates Rights

I was a surrogate for a couple who were friends at the time. I asked them several times before agreeing if there were any relationship problems, they continually said no. There was no contract written up, but there was a witness to the whole thing. There was physical abuse from the beginning, and after the birth, they got divorced. The Mother of the child is trying to sue me for child support. Is there any laws protecting surrogates in AL? Any advice in this would be amazingly appreciated.
