Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

How do I have a typographical error corrected on a 22-year-old name change document?

I changed my full name 22 years ago at the age of 18. There was a typo that stated my original middle name as "Marma" instead of "Norma." This has been a minor annoyance over the years when I would apply for a driver's license in a new state, etc., but that was all. Now this "typo" is causing more problems as gov. agencies get more skittish about fraud, terrorism, etc.

I need a U.S. passport and was told I would HAVE to get that middle-name "typo" fixed before I could get one. How do I do that? The original lawyer is no longer practicing. Could I just do a DIY name change, listing my current name as "the name I use now" AND "the name I wish to change to?" I am very confused about this but this needs to be rectified SOON. Any advice would be most appreciated.

Respectfully, S -

Go to your county probate office, they have forms to make the change. It is easy and cost about $18
