Re: unrelated child custody?
custody of an unrelated child can occur in a family court setting involving some alleged abuse by a parent to the child. in that type of situation the court might award temporary or, over time, permanent custody of the child to an unrelated party. however as in all situations related parties are preferred. adoption is another avenue where a person may obtain custody of an unrelated child. in a divorce setting it is possible that the court would consider granting custody of some sort to an unrelated person if no related person was available or suitable to the court. however it is more likely in the divorce situation that the court would look to the state child protection agency for assistance in this regard. there may be other avenues available to obtain custody of an unrelated child, but these are a few.
