Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Alabama

Bankrupcy and Litigation

My wife was in an automobile accident around 2 years ago. Just now, 2 years later, a individual in another vehicle is filing a suit for damages above the amount of my wife's insurance company was required to pay. If the person wins the case in court and sues us for an amount that is exceedingly high, could we file bankrupcy and be free from this debt?

I would consult the attorney for the insurance company who is defending the lawsuit. He will fill you in on the details.
