Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Alabama

My mother-in-law stole titles to two vehicles that my husband owns. He owns half of the land where she lives also. She is holding the vehicles hostage saying he has to pay her to get them back. We owe her nothing. Can we file for missing titles and have the vehicles towed?

You can file criminal charges with your local law enforcement. I would not suggest any self-help at this time as it could lead to criminal charges against you. You could file a civil lawsuit and obtain a judgment also. This proces would be the recommended one by me in the event you can get no satisfaction from your local law enforcement. You could also contact your local district attorney's office and discuss with them the filing of the criminal charges.
