Legal Question in Insurance Law in Alabama
My wife just got a job as a teach with HeadStart. We just got her first check to learn that money is being taken out aside from the normal taxes. We questioned it only to be told that it is mandatory for all teachers to pay for Health Insurance and that we don't have a choice? Is it legal for a them to mandate that we pay Health Insurance? I already have insurance and my new job will cover both of us and we don't see the need to double cover anyways.
Thanks
Michael

Not in my opinion can you force a person to buy health insurance. Now under the Obama plan there was some indication of that but it is not in full effect currently. And, it should have been disclosed originally. I suspect it is a self-insured plan and they want all employees participating so they have more money in the pot.
