Who's The Criminal?
Can my employer legally take money from my paycheck for an incident three months ago at the hardware store where I work? A customer fraudulently represented himself as a legitimate contract customer and stole two-thousand dollars plus of building materials. I followed all existing procedures.

Your employer must pay you at least minimum wage which is $5.15/hour. If the amount he deducted bring your pay to below minimum wage, then you have a right to sue him for violations to that effect. Also if you worked in excess of 40 hours in any one week then he must pay you at rate of time and a half your regular rate of pay. He can lower your salary for any reason he deems fit as long as he does not violate the above two provisions of the law. You should be aware that the law only applies to those businesses making a minimum of $500,000/year total gross receipts. If he doesn't put in that much, you don't have a claim. If he is in fact making enough and has violated the provisions of the law above, then get an attorney in your area. The advantage of these cases is that the losing side has to pay attorney fees. This makes smaller cases worthwhile for attorneys to take.
