Legal Question in Employment Law in Alabama
fired
I worked for a company about about two months. i was suspended because the cash came up short and i was the manager on duty.BUT, THE DAY BEFORE THE STORE MANAGER HAD DONE THE PAPERWORK (I WAS ASST MANAGER) AND HER CASH WAS SHORT. IT HAD TO BE HERS BECAUSE ALL OF MY MONEY WAS THERE.I WAS SUSPENDED FOR A WEEK AND ON THE LAST DAY OF MY SUSPENSION I RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL SAYING THAT I WAS TERMINATED BUT IT DID NOT GIVE A REASON AND WHEN I CALLED THE HOME OFFICE TO ASK THEM ABOUT IT THEY SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. WHICH IS A LIE BECAUSE THE LETTER CAME FROM HOME OFFICE. THE DISTRICT MANAGER WOULD NOT ACCEPT MY PHONE CALL AND THE AREA MANAGER NEVER CALLED BACK.DO I HAVE GROUNDS FOR A SUIT?

Re: fired
Mr. Kreitlin's remarks are essentially correct, however, you may still have a case. If you are an hourly employee and they do not pay you for the final week's worth of wages (which often happens in this situation) then you have a complaint for violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act. If that does happen to you, give me a call at 205-458-1100 and I'd be happy to help you.
Re: fired
Well, probably not. Unless you were a member of a labor union and were covered under their contract or you were hired under an employment contract, you can be fired for any reason whatsoever, except for a discriminatory reason prohibited by law (eg. race, disability, etc.). Otherwise, even though you were treated unfairly, there is no real claim.
