Legal Question in Employment Law in Alabama

I work in Alabama and my work has a policy against discussing salaries with your co-workers. I have a good idea of how much a male co-worker makes because we came from the same place of prior employment and emails are sent out to the entire company when someone is promoted and I can make guesstimates of how much of a raise comes with each promotion. Now my question is if there isn't a professional reason for a male in my same job title/description to be making more than me (We have the same education, experience, etc), how would I go about correcting this? Do I obtain a lawyer and then the company would have to state that there is no difference between pay of males and females? Or would the burden of proof be on me to say that I make less because I am female?
