Legal Question in Employment Law in Alabama

Workplace Threats

I had a supervisor in front of witnesses scream at me and jab his finger in my face. He then turned and told an assistant manager in the room that if I was not fired he was quitting. I reported this to my district supervisor who told me that what he had done was against company policy. She then told my store manager that this man could be fired. From there it was dropped and nothing was done. I have felt so uncomfortable that I have changed jobs and took a 2 dollar an hour cut in pay and lost my benefits just to keep my sanity. I asked to be transferred but was told I could not. Can I do anything? Even though I turned in a letter of resignation I am technically still an employee of this company as of today May 23 2007. I checked.

Re: Workplace Threats

No. So he screamed at you. Big deal, life is tough and full of *. Did he physically touch you? If so, did he injure you sufficiently? When he screamed at you did he threaten you with bodily harm? If he did those things, he might be criminally prosecuted. But you couldn't sue the company and I doubt if he has enough money to make a lawsuit worthwhile.

You voted with your feet. that's your option; or further complaints. You could have made his life miserable by further complaints. But that's about the extent of your remedy.

Good luck in your new job.
