service in a foreign country

i served while in the army in bogota columbia i wore no military clothes had no military compound had no medical service from the military all medical service was obtained from the local area now i have need for records but none are there for that period. what if any recource do i have

Well, I hate to say this but you probably do not have much recourse. If the military did not provide you with a "ghost" posting in a legitimate area or base while your off-the-record service was ongoing (I think this is the current practice in some special units), there likely is no file and no records indicating where you were and what you were doing. I know of Vietnam-era vets who served in Laos and Cambodia and they have the same problem and, unfortunately, I don't know of any of them who were able to get the situation fixed. You might try contacting your Congressman's office (Representative or Senator, either one) and see if they can help you. Since Congress controls the military's budget, the DoD is usually pretty responsive to members of Congress. You might also try some Veteran's groups as well. Good luck and thanks for your service!
