Legal Question in Personal Injury in Alabama

If you are backin up and u barely hit a fender but there is a dent and the person that is driving the car doesnt even own the car and says it ok and no police report nor exchanges of insurance was made... but a week later the actual owner expects you to pay it or sue you... can they do that?
