Yes, there is a $100,000.00 cap, and you cannot recover punitive damages unless it is a wrongful death claim (only punitive damages are recoverable in Alabama for wrongful death - only state in the country). The only way to exceed the cap is if you have some federal claim such as a 1983 claim which is difficult to prove and rare.
