Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Alabama
I have advertised my lot for rent or lease. Now I have been approached by a real estate agent that wants 20% of the monthly lease as an offer has been made through the agents office. I am told that I cannot approach the prospective lessor, nor will they lease from me if I do not go through this agent's office. Is this legal?

If you go through the real estate agent, you will have to pay. However, if you rent or lease your property without the assistance of the agent, you do not have to pay. Should you know the person who made the offer through the real estate agent, and you attempt to contact that person outside of the real estate agent, you would owe the agent still.
