breaking a contract

Can I cancel a written contract addendum to sell my used furniture to the buyer of my house, when I gave them a five day notice of doing so?

Probably not unless the contract allows you to cancel. However, if you do breach the contract you will probably be liable only for the value of the furniture instead of for specific performance (an order requiring you to sell the furniture).
