Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Alabama

I need to KNOW!!!!

My mother left my sister and myself a house when she passed away. We both live in New York but the house is in Alabama. My sister does not contribute to any of the care taking of the house and i've been paying the bills for about 4 years now by myself. Is there a law that by her showing no interest in the house and her being spitful and not selling me her half of the house, can i do anything legal about that?

I believe that this question would be more suited for a trusts and estates attorney. The preliminary answer I would provide is that your best bet would be to sue your sister for half of the expenses which you have incurred in the upkeep and maintenance of the house. A trusts and estates attorney can guide you through this process. Courts are generally equitable when it comes to these matters, and would not want your sister unjustly enriched by your 100% investment in the maintenance of the house. Since your sister own 50% of the house, it would be equitable for her to pay her fair share.
