Legal Question in Traffic Law in Alabama

appeal bond

My son was stopped for out of date

license plate (which he immediately

replaced). He did not appear as

required, not knowing the

consequences. Then he was arrested

and spent a night in jail, charged

with failure to appear, etc. (No

drinking or drugs involved.) Now he

realizes he signed an appeal bond

and will have to appear in court next

month some time. Meanwhile he has

a letter advising that his driver's

license is suspended. What he would

like to do is pay the fine and end all

of this. Are there steps he can take

to get this out of court and pay

immediately, getting his driving

privileges restored? Does he need a

lawyer? He is employed as a graphic

artist with a Huntsville firm, for

which he has worked for two years.

No previous convictions or arrests.

Re: appeal bond

He is not my client, but if he was, I would tell him to hire a lawyer tomorrow. Obviously he made a mess of a simple situation by failing to appear, but he did well by filing an appeal. An attorney can now simplify his situation. There is hope for him. A suspended license is far more expense and aggravation than the cost of an attorney. Hire a lawyer to unravel this problem.
