Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Alabama

adoption records

I'm wanting to obtain adoption rec. of my deceased grandfather. His adoptive parents are both dead. My Grandfather born 1926 and died in 1955. His adoption took place in mobile al. in 1926. How can I get these or any information from them. I've tried contacting Mobile co. court but can't get any answer. There are no living relitives for me to ask.

Thank you for your time.

Re: adoption records

If you have tried all avenues on your own, you may want to hire an heirship search firm to locate information. They may be able to help.

Good luck to you.

Re: adoption records

I would suggest calling the local Mobile county probate office again, (I tried to give yo their phone number by the Law Guru email system "punted it back as an error, so I have tried to spell it out for you

area two 5 one

number five, 7 four

- eight, 5 0 two)

and first ask if they have some suggestions on your hunt/search.

I would believe the Court might have old adoption files alphabetized to at least let you know if the file is still maintained by the office (perhaps in an achieve or off-site storage).

Assuming you don't get a satisfactory answer with this call, then before you let them hang up, ask for the names of a couple of local attorneys who regularly practice/appear before the Probate Court and their phone numbers.

A call to the attorneys should be of some help, and worst case, you might owe them for an hour or so of their time to research the old adoption records the next time they are at the courthouse and have a little time to look up the information for you.

A further alternative might be to contact the Office of Vital Statistics in Montgomery, but sorry, I do not have a number for them close at hand. I think you should be able to get a number for them from information, and I believe that office is location in the State Health Department.

Hope this is helpful, and if we can be of further assistance, please give us a call. Have a blessed rest of the Lord's Day and coming week. Kindest regards, Chip
